HMA CME Mission Statement

Continuing Medical Education

The CME mission of the Hawaii Medical Association is to support quality patient care through appropriate and timely education with information about current and vital issues of medicine and medical practice for doctors of medicine and osteopathy in Hawaii and the PacificBasin.

The mission is achieved through the Hawaii Medical Association Continuing Medical Education Facilities Accreditation Committee (CME FAC) which is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as an intrastate accrediting body. The Essentials provide the criteria that medical centers, specialty societies, and other health related organizations must meet to designate continuing medical education credit.

The primary goal of the CME program is to provide quality education based on prioritized needs, continuous evaluation, desired outcomes, and continuous improvement that result in quality patient care. To accomplish this, the CME FAC reviews reports from the accredited CME providers, conducts site surveys, educates the physician and staff members of those entities which provide CME on a regular basis, conducts provider customer satisfaction surveys, and participates in the continuous improvement of CME doctrine on a national level.

The Hawaii Medical Association is also a partner in the Hawaii Consortium of Continuing Medical Education, a joint effort between the Hawaii Medical Association and the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii, which sponsors the scientific session of the HMA Annual Meeting, the CME programs of the medical school, and jointly sponsors programs of numerous non-accredited organizations in Hawaii.
