March 2022 President’s Message

Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future

The Hawaii Medical Association has been in existence since 1856.  The charter of incorporation was issued by the Privy Council of King Kamehameha IV, and for the last 156+ years HMA has represented and advocated in the best interest of Hawaii’s physician community.

The needs of public health and the landscape of the medical profession are constantly changing, and to provide the best service to our membership HMA will always remain flexible, up-to-date and ready to pivot to whatever best suits our members’ needs.  We are positioned to reimagine what HMA can be to protect and assist our medical professionals and patients, and we remain steadfast to the original visionaries from 1856, who created HMA “for the encouragement and cultivation of medical science, and the advancement of the interests and usefulness of the medical profession.”

Our heritage is rich; our mission strong.  I am humbled and honored to serve this proud organization, and look forward to what we can accomplish.

The Voice of One,
The Strength of Many.
