2022 Legislative Committee Update

Aloha HMA Members!

The 2022 Hawaii State Legislative session opened on January 19th, and your HMA Legislative Committee has been hard at work in preparation for making our concerns known at the highest levels.

The committee has been organized into five work groups, with each tasked to clearly and concisely write a position statement and gather testimony in their area of concern.  Our five work groups are:

  • Access to Care: addressing our physician shortage
  • Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder
  • Screening and Preventative Health
  • Telehealth
  • Scope of Practice

As we navigate the current legislative session, we’ll continuously post updates on our progress to the members-only section of the HMA website.  While you’re there, we also encourage you to watch the legislative training video presented by Linda Rosehill, JD, who is our Government Relations expert.  She does an excellent job of explaining the legislative process.

Thank you for your membership – we’re stronger together.  If you have any comments or concerns about our current work with the legislature, please contact HMA Executive Director Marc Alexander at 808.536.7703 or at m.alexander@hawaiimedicalassociation.org.
