Elizabeth (Liz) Tam, MD (1953-2021)

One of Hawaii’s premier healthcare educators and practitioners, Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Tam passed away on October 9, 2021. Her outstanding career was marked by many milestones: 30 years on the faculty of JABSOM; 15 years as Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine and only the second Native Hawaiian chairperson; double-boarded in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine; respected and revered mentor to students and residents; and generous community volunteer. Dr. Angela Pratt, President of the Hawaii Medical Association, remembered Dr. Tam as “an inspiring researcher and advocate in lung health, an outstanding role model and mentor to all in the Hawaiian community and far beyond. We express our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Tam’s family, as we remember her fondly and continue to be touched by her legacy.”
